George Theodoris Bio

George Theodoris is a scientist with a doctorate in Genetics who currently does research at the USDA and in the past has worked at UC Davis, UC Berkeley and Arcadia Biosciences. It was while at UC Berkeley 30 years ago that George started growing Haworthia at the same time he was doing post-doctoral research on the genetics of leaf morphology in plants. Haworthia proved more captivating than the plants, which he worked with in the lab because they displayed a wide range of fascinating and exquisite leaf traits.  Taking a cue from Gregor Mendel, he decided to use his plant genetic skills to combine and intensify Haworthia leaf traits to reimagine the artistic aspects of the plants. He gradually became a world renown artisan breeder of Haworthia and now also breeds Euphorbia francoisii and other succulents.
