Dudleya farinosa

Dudleya farinosa is one of California’s botanical treasures, thriving on cliffs along our beautiful coast. However, its survival is threatened by invasive ice-plant weeds and poaching, with gangs stripping this precious plant from its natural habitat to sell for high prices in Asia. I am happy to offer Dudleya farinosa grown from seed ethically sourced from the USDA. By establishing a breeding population, I aim to make these beautiful plants available to collectors and reduce pressure on wild populations.

Dudleya farinosa leaves have a white, powdery, waxy coating that protects them. In their natural habitat, these plants grow in full sun and develop beautiful red tones. In my growing environment, the seedlings are nurtured in shadier conditions and do not exhibit the strong red tones of habitat plants. However, given full sun and less water, they will develop characteristic red pigmentation and more compact leaves. These plants are easy to grow and beautiful additions to any collection.
